Ok, I’m up to volume four of Solo Leveling (the manga version) and ya’ll, I’m really living for it. I know it was originally a web novel, but the art in the manga version has been really great. But I am REALLY looking forward to the anime adaptation because the fights are going to be sooooooo epically good, it’s being done by A-1 Pictures (Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, Seven Deadly Sins, Gate, just to name a few of my favorites) .
I was not sure I was going to enjoy the series, it has a very typical start for the protagonist as a weaker guy who has an epic come to jesus experience and everything changes for him. But the more I read, the more I got invested in the world, and the mysteries. There is obvious and blatant over-poweredness in this story BUT it works and makes sense. The thing I get from it is that it’s highly possible that even though there is some OP-ness right now, it’s not going to last and….there may be a tight timeline for why there needs to be OP-ness. I have to admit that I’m super, super intrigued and invested now — Vol 4 had me yelling out loud with some of the teasing revelations they offered us.
I am enjoying the art quite a bit — the panels are definitely dynamic, it’s a rougher feel than some of the other manga I typically read like The World’s Strongest Rearguard, but it makes the panels more dynamic I think. This manga is more like a comic because it’s read left to right and it’s completely in color. I think it makes this really work and stand out. There is so much fighting in this story ( it’s very important to the plot) so the use of color helps to add the actual feelings of a sinister foe or a challenging fight. It’s funny, for all the fighting, I don’t think we’re getting to the beginning of the real plotlines until just this last vol. Vol 5 comes out in September and I’m definitely picking it up.
A book I will not be continuing is HazureSkill. Well. Most likely. Volume 1 was a did not finish for me. It was boring and I was just over an OP main guy character who just spends his time sleeping around and all the women faun over him and just UGH. Enough with that trope, geez.
I did end up picking up more Love of Kill. I think it has potential (the anime was …not good, ugh, could not get through the first episode) and I’d like to find out where it’s going. If I’m not feeling it after these next few volumes, I’ll let it go.
I picked up a super shoujo manga called The dragon Knight’s Beloved and the art is super pretty. I also picked up the manga volumes for one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE ANIME Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun!!! I want to know what else happens since the anime was only one season, so I’m picking up a few volumes at a time, same as I’m doing with Akatsuki no Yona ( which also only had one season and was soooooo good).
I’m still reading my Sarah J Maas book. I did pick up a new book for the TBD pile, Blade of Secrets by Tricia Levenseller. WISH ME LUCK with all the things for me to read LOL
